Hollywood star Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba named new-born gorillas in Rwanda with an aim of promoting conservation and tourism.
The naming ceremony, known as Kwita Izina, took place in ”Kinigi” .A total of 23 baby gorillas were named , Idris and his wife Sabrina named one gorilla ”Narame”, meaning “long life” and US comedian Kevin Hart who attended virtually also named another “Gakondo”, meaning “traditional”.
Other gorillas were given names by several prominent people including Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Bernard Lama ”Ramba”, meaning “sustainable” , British MP Andrew Mitchell “Mukundwa”, meaning “favoured” and Local environmental activist Grace Ineza ”Bigwi”, meaning “achiever” ,among others.
Last year’s ceremony was attended virtually by British royalty. The then Prince of Wales, now King Charles III, named a baby gorilla “Ubwuzuzanye”, which means “harmony” .
