American singer Taylor Swift won big at the 2023 MTV Video Music awards having scooped nine awards in several categories.
MTV Video Music Awards are annual awards organized to honour artists with the best music videos and this year’s edition “2023”was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12th.
Swift went into the night with the most nominations, and left with nine wins including, Video of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects all for "Anti-Hero," Album of the Year for Midnights, plus Artist of the Year and Show of the Summer.
It was the second year in a row that Swift has claimed the awards’ top prize following her video of the year win for “All Too Well” ,The Short Film in 2022.
The wins made the pop star the second-most awarded artist in the show's history. She's also tied for the most wins in one night.
The 33-year-old singer dedicated her wins to the art of songwriting as well as to presenters ‘NSync, who reunited for the first time in over a decade to give her one award, and her video editor Chancler Hanes and cinematographer Rina Yang, who spoke on Swift’s behalf for her video of the year win.
Colombian singer Shakirah Isabel was the night’s other winner having taken home the Video Vanguard Award as well as Best Duo alongside Karol G for their song “TQG”. Shakirah became the first South American artist to receive MTV’s Video Vanguard Award.
Other winners on the night included rapper Ice Spice, who took home best new artist, and K-pop group Blackpink, who became the first girl band to pick up best group since TLC 24 years ago.
