Veteran Nollywood   actor Amaechi Muonagor pleaded  for financial assistance from the general public to fund his medical expenses.

The actor who is  currently down with a kidney disease is seeking to travel to India for a  transplant.

In a video shared on social media,  Muonagor was seen unwell lying on a bed with a colleague actor Kingsley Orji seated next to him.

Kingsley appealed for financial support on behalf of the ailing actor explaining that his colleague was unable to speak for himself after his illness affected his speech. He revealed that Muonagor was sent home from the hospital after they failed to pay his medical bills.

“He was responding to treatment but not very well. We decided to bring him home because there was no money but it is not advisable. He barely talks well. Please, he needs your help," Kingsley explained.

Muonagor is known for his roles in films like 2 RatsAki Na UkwaMeet The In-LawsUkwaThe Last BurialPolice RecruitKarishika among others and the  sad  news of  the struggle for his health have come at a time when  Nigerians are still mourning the death of Nollywood star John Okafor alias  Mr Ibu, who passed on earlier this month March 2024.

As they are paid on a film-by-film basis the majority of Nigerian Actors  are not part of the health insurance scheme or able to make regular payments. However  the Actors Guild of Nigeria says it has been able to get an insurance company to cover the industry, though not all performers have signed up for it.
