5,905 Cases of Red Eye Disease Reported in Prisons

The Uganda Prison Service says they are currently struggling to control  the red eye disease which has affected many of their prisons facilities affected.

In mid-March the Ministry of Health announced the spread of Red eyes disease within the country which was first reported in KCCA Schools and later in Prions facilities.

Frank Baine the Prison Spokesman noted that to-date a total of 5905 cases of red eye cases have so far been reported in Prions facilities, adding that whereas 4704 inmates have fully recovered, 1201 are still active cases.

He further noted that over 15 Prisons facilities country wide have been affected by red eyes even though the situation was put under control.

He mentioned prisons facilities with the highest cases of red eyes including Luzira Women Prison, Upper Prison, Marchison Bay Luzira, Kigo Main, Jinja Main and Mbarara main among others.

" We will continue to adhere standard operating procedures which were set up to the control the spread of Red eyes and he asked Visitors to adhere to them," says Frank Baine.
