Beyonce allows Harris to use her “Freedom” song

Beyonce permitted Vice President Kamala Harris to use her song dubbed “Freedom” throughout her presidential campaign.

Harris made a big entrance during her first official visit to her campaign headquarters on Monday 22nd July 2024 , walking out to the song and a source close to her revealed that  her team got approval from Beyoncé’s representatives to use the song .

The Source explained that “Beyonce, who is known for maintaining strict clearance guidelines around her music, gave quick approval to Harris’ campaign when they sought permission to use "Freedom ".

Meanwhile Beyonce has a history of endorsing Democratic candidates. In 2013, she sang the National Anthem at the inauguration of President Barack Obama. In 2016, Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z headlined a pre-election concert for Clinton  in Cleveland, Ohio, with her backup dancers dressed in blue pantsuits to honor the woman who could have been the first female president.

"Freedom" is a song recorded by American singer Beyonce featuring American rapper Kendrick Lamar for her sixth studio album, Lemonade (2016). The song was written by Jonny Coffer  , Beyoncé, Carla Marie Williams, Dean McIntosh and Lamar; it contains samples of "Let Me Try", written by Frank Tirado, performed by Kaleidoscope; samples of "Collection Speech/Unidentified Lining Hymn", recorded by Alan Lomax in 1959, performed by Reverend R.C. Crenshaw; and samples of "Stewball", recorded by Alan Lomax and John Lomax  , Sr. in 1947, performed by Prisoner "22" at Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.
