Hearing-impaired beauty queen “Mia le Roux” was crowned the 2024/25 Miss South Africa.
The record made Mia le Roux the first deaf woman to be crowned Miss South Africa. In her acceptance speech, the 28-year-old said she hoped her victory would help those who felt excluded from society to achieve their wildest dreams.
"I am a proudly South African deaf woman and I know what it feels like to be excluded." I know now that I was put on this planet to break boundaries and I did it tonight”, she stated.
The model was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one and has a cochlear implant to help her perceive sound. She said it had taken two years of speech therapy before she was able to say her first words.
Miss South Africa 2024 was the 66th edition of the Miss South Africa pageant, held on Saturday, 10th /August /2024 at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria. The winner Mia le Roux of Western Cape was crowned by her predecessor Natasha Joubert of Gauteng.
Mia le Roux‘s win came after Chidimma Adetshina pulled out of the competition a few days to the grand finale following allegations that her mother may have stolen the identity of a South African woman.
