The student leadership in Kyambogo has a partnership with Leiden University, which started in 2014. According to some student leaders, Kafuko presented forged accountability showing that he spent the money in Netherlands. They fault the Dean of students for authorizing the payment of Kafuko as opposed to processing the travel requirements for him.
John Mugabi, the coordinator Kyambogo University-Leiden University students program, says Kafuuko confessed to the Dean of students that he didn't make the trip, saying he was trying to recover the money from a third party who was meant to go".
He says the failure by Kafuko to make the trip has impacted heavily on their partnership. According to Mugabi, as a result of the partnership students from Kyambogo would travel to Netherlands on an exchange program, but this is no more.
Muhammad Ssemujju, a student and member of African students for Liberty at Kyambogo University, says Kafuko shouldn't be allowed to graduate unless he refunds the money.
Sarah Kansime, a Guild Council representative, says the failure by Kafuko to make the trip was a huge embarrassment to Kyambogo University as the host University had made the necessary preparations to host him.
Benard Omokol, a student leader says both the Dean of Students and the Guild president are to blame.
Efforts by our reporter to speak to Kafuko were futile as he could neither pick nor respond to our text messages to his mobile.
Mildred Mbuga, the Dean of Students Kyambogo University, says Kafuko promised to bring the relevant accountability in relation to the travel. She however, couldn't respond to the allegation of possible connivance between University authorities and Kafuko.
