Fatal accident in Iganga claims lives and leaves many hospitalised

Police have identified the 7 people who perished in road accident that occurred in Iganga district on Wednesday night.

According to Iganga district police commander Nasib Ndita the accident occurred at around 8pm on Wednesday, this was after a taxi registration number UAZ 157 V from Busia heading to Kampala had a head on collision with mini bus registration number UAT 805F from Jinja.

He named the deceased as Esther Mirembe resident of Gayaza, David Bogere resident of Nakavuke village Iganga district, Badru Lunabe the minibus driver resident of Mafubira in Jinja, Amina Nakadama of Baitambogwe, Agrey Baliluno, Mugude Bob among others.

Ndita said 22 other people sustained serious injuries and were taken to Jinja referral hospital and Iganga Nakavule hospital for medical attention.

He attributed the accident on over speeding and reckless driving by the taxi driver who collided with the minibus as he attempted to overtake the tractor.

Traffic police in Iganga managed to remove the wreckage of trucks that involved in night accident to allow traffic flow of traffic. The remains of the deceased were taken to Iganga Nakavule hospital for postmortem.

Ndita urged the drivers to drive carefully as we are heading to Christmas festival and also asked passengers to speak to avoid such incident.

In other related news, 3 pupils of Bukomero Junior primary school have perished in a fatal accident which occurred today morning at Bukomero town council in Kiboga district on their way to school.

The over speeding motor vehicle registration number UBD 455N from Kampala to Hoima lost control due to a mechanical problem and knocked dead 3 pupils who were on their way to school.

According to Nobert Ochom Wamala regional police spokesperson the deceased have been identified as.

- Ssentongo Moses male juvenile 13 years Bukomero A zone

- Icolidi Ssesangu male juvenile 10 years residents of Bukomero central.

- Lwanga Fred male juvenile 13 years resident of Kakuyu B.

He adds that Mukasa Paul 32 years a driver resident of Nansana in Wakiso district has been arrested and charged with causing a fatal accident.

The bodies have been taken to Bukomero health center iv for postmortem and vehicle impounded and parked at Bukomero police station in Kiboda district.
