The government of Uganda has signed an agreement with XSABO Group to build a pilot solar plant of 20MW in Kabulasoke, Gomba district which will address the challenge of power shortages in rural communities.

This was revealed by the Vice-president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi saying that Uganda still faces a challenge of power shortage for industries which has crippled the growth of industrialization.

According to Ssekandi, even with the completion of Karuma Hydro power project and Isimba Dam, rural communities will not be served efficiently but solar power project will bridge the gap.

The Pilot power park in Kabulasoke will be the largest solar power park in East and Central Africa and Uganda is not only cementing its model role as the bastion of clean and renewable energy in East and Central Africa, says the vice president.
