Government offers education loans to over 2000 students

The government of Uganda has awarded 2950 students with loans to pursue higher education under the higher education student’s loans scheme under the ministry of Education.

According to the board, they received a total of 4,603 loan applications and awarded loan to 2,950 students of whom 792 (27%) are female and 2158)73%) are male.

Speaking while releasing the 5th group of beneficiaries of the academic year 208-19, the state minister for Higher Education Dr. JC Muyingo said that the government increased the budget of the board to Ushs 2.7billion to award eligible Ugandans loans to study.

He said that the loans are mainly awarded to students pursuing science and Technology programs because the country is still faced with a big shortage of manpower in science discipline.
