Government urged to use local products

Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has urged the government to implement 40% local content policy that allows the government to purchase 40% of construction materials from local manufactures.

According to Sebagala Kigozi the UMA executive director, there is no way local manufacturers will develop more if the government cannot support them through purchasing their materials.

He says its shows bad image to investors when the government cannot trust their quality of products and instead go to purchase the same products abroad.

He says companies that are manufacturing construction materials in the country have the capacity to supply Uganda government 40 % on the Kaluma and Isimba  Dam projects but the government has not  yet showed any interest of purchasing some construction materials from these factories.
