Heavy deployment at City Hall as KCCA swears in Lukwago and councillors

There is heavy deployment at City hall ahead of the swearing in of Erias Lukwago, the Kampala Capital City Authority Lord mayor and councilors.

According to our reporter, heavily armed ordinary and anti-terrorism police officers backed by Military police have deployed strategically around City hall.

Police have also deployed standby patrol vehicles and an ambulance to handle emergency cases. Those turning up for the event are screened and searched before they are allowed in.

Robert Kalumba, the KCCA deputy spokesperson describes the deployment as normal. According to Kalumba, the only new development is that KCCA employees have been barred from parking inside the precincts of city hall.

But Rusoke Kituma, the KCCA head of security, says the deployment is heavier than usual because they expect a huge gathering because each of the 27 councilors is coming with six people and the lord mayor with 200 people.

According to Rusoke, they have deployed to ensure security for the big gathering and smooth flow of traffic.
