Huge delay in retrieving sunk boat caused by lack of resources -Police

The exercise to retrieve the wreckage of the vessel that capsized on L Victoria are still on going .

As police and UPDF marine together with local fishermen early this week have embarked on rescue to pull out the wreckage.

On Tuesday, marine units deployed MV Kalangala to pull out the wreckage but only part of it pulled out.

According to the director of operations Asuman Mugyenyi the phase of turning fate full boat upright has been successful.

33 people have been reported dead and 26 were rescued, the numbers of those still missing is unclear and reports indicates at least 100 people board the vessel before it capsized.

Addressing journalists at Mutima beach Mpatta sub county in Mukono district the director of operations Asuman Mugyenyi says no special funding has been provided for the operation.

We have volunteers trying to help on the operation, but for the side of government,each government agency has used it's own resources allocated in the budget ' says Mugyenyi.

He adds that it's now difficult to know how much fuel, airtime, used until the exercise is concluded.

We are now embarked on recovering the missing bodies and those that could be trapped and also recover the property that could possibly around scene of accident.

He however said four families have reported to police the names of missing people these are , Sylivia Namutebi, Peter Kakoza, Godfrey Musisi and Andrew Ssenyonga.

On other hand the UPDF Marines commander Brigadier Mitcheal Nyarwa says the rescue team also face same challenges in trying to search for bodies that may be trapped in wreckage of I'll fated boat that capsized on Saturday night

He adds that the divers can not enter the compartment of the boat because they also fear to be trapped inside.
