More than 450 regional leaders from 45 cities in East and Central Africa are in Kampala for a conference to tackle issues of urban development in cities.  Peter Kauju the spokesperson KCCA says the regional leasers forum for East and Central African cities will enable east African community member state in particular to come up with various solutions to various challenges faced by many African cities like slum development, flooding, poor health services and climate change. The three day forum that opened at Speke resort Munyonyo also seeks to generate practice ideas for ensuring sustainable development. Other participants are development partners and researchers.
Kampala lord mayor, Elias Lukwago has condemned the manner in which Kampala Capital City Authority is hosting the regional leaders for East and central African cities development forum in Munyonyo without inviting him and any of the city authority elected councilors. Lukwago has noted that the provisions of KCCA Act, particularly section 11, authorize the Lord Mayor to host foreign dignitaries not the Executive director.
