Lukwago re-echoes need to amend 1942 market law

Kampala mayor Erias Lukwago has reiterated the urgent need to pass the Kampala City Market Ordinance and urged parliament to amend the 1942 Market Law.

The proposed amendment of the market law is before council is aimed at streamlining the law enforcement system and management of Boda boda operations in city.

The mayors remarks follow a meeting with the  Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development the Hon. Janat Mukwaya who paid a courtesy call at the Lord Mayor's Parlor.

The Minister is in Kampala on a Field Monitoring Visit as an on-the-spot assessment of selected projects financed under the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP).

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Lord Mayor Hajat Sarah Kanyike, KCCA Deputy Executive Director Mr. Samuel Sserunkuuma and Councillor Zamin Nsibambi.

Mayor in the meeting also  raised pertinent concerns about the World Bank initiative of assisting the informal sector to create jobs, improving work spaces in Kampala as common user facilities.
