Micho set to shock many with his secret weapon in this AFCON tournament
Uganda Cranes head coach has said he has a secret weapon in his team for the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
“There is a secret weapon that I have planned that will shock many during the tournament,” the coach told URN. Although the Serbian born tactician did not want to reveal details he also hinted that his starting squads at the tournament could have several changes.
Sredojevic said after the team’s few days of training in Uganda and Tunisia, he is aware of several changes that should be made as they get closer to the the Championship. “Afcon is a big stage and there is no room for gambling,” added the coach.
The Serbian born coach named his final 23 players last evening after the team lost 2-0 away to Tunisia. He dropped the KCCA FC duo of goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan and Muzamil Mutyaba, together with Edrisa Lubega who features for Proline FC.
Veteran striker and skipper Geoffrey Massa together with experienced Tony Mawejje and Hassan Wasswa Mawanda all made the team. New star in the Azam Uganda Premier League who was also voted player of the year, Muhammed Shaban (Onduparaka FC) is also named on the final squad.
The team was expected to arrive in the United Arab Emirates this morning where they will set camp and also face Slovakia and African champions Ivory Coast in international friendly matches in Abu Dhabi.
Uganda is grouped along side Ghana, Egypt and Mali in Pool D for the tournament which runs January 14 to February 5th.
