Five Kampala schools have today been awarded Model Schools for WASH after winning the Toilet Making the Grades (TMG) competition.

The competition which started last month was put in place by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in collaboration with German Development Corporation (GIZ) in a bid to improve the practice of keeping toilets and washrooms clean, functional and improving daily washing of hands with soap at KCCA public primary schools.

The five schools that won the contest as identified by a jury include St. Paul Kyebando, St. Peters Nsyambya, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga, Kalinabili primary school and Nakivubo primary school.

While officiating at the function, Betty Kamya the Minister for Kampala said people often need to be reminded to wash their hands after visiting toilets if the habit is to be adopted.

She said this way, diseases that come as a result of poor sanitation and hygiene will be minimized in the country.
