Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke has been officially charged with incitement of the public to commit an offense by the Nakawa chief magistrate court.

However, Grade one magistrate Noah Sajabi has  granted her  a five million non cash bail while her sureties have been order  to pay 10 million not in cash.

Hon.Nambooze has also pleaded not guilty to the charge and ordered to return to court on the 27th of September this year for further mention of her case as investigations into the case continues.

While in court, the sickly MP stayed in her wheel chair instead of standing in court dock because she has a spinal cord and leg injuries.

The  charge  is in relation to alleged statements made by the MP on her social media page in which is said to have incited the assassination of former Arua MP Ibrahim Abiriga who was later gunned down by unknown assailants alongside his brother  Said Buga on the 8th of June near his home in Kawanda Matugga , Wakiso district.

Prosecution led by  Deborah Itau states that on the 9th of June 2018,Hon.  Nambooze through  uttering and writings in the media, incited the public to attack and murder public figures however guarded they may be since  government could not secure them .

Meanwhile Nambooze was driven to court in an Ambulance from the  Criminal Investigations Department at  Kibuli  headquarters after being summoned to appear there following her return from India were she was undergoing further medical treatment.

Police summoned Nambooze to the CID headquarters to explain the alleged offenses immediately after Hon.Abiriga's assassination, however this could not be possible because she was sick and admitted at Kirudu government hospital under security watch.
