NAKAWA MAGISTRATE ORDERS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF MURDER SUSPECT

Nakawa grade one magistrate Christine Natenge has ordered for the immediate and unconditional release of a one Ben Zziwa Kafuuma who is currently being detained at Jinja road police station for more than the mandatory 48 hours.

The suspect who has been detained for over 23 days since his arrest has not been produced before court or officially charged of any offence.

The suspect was allegedly arrested on the 21st of April 2017 in relation to the murder of Kampala businessman Wilberforce Wamala in 2012.

However his lawyer Namazzi Jacqueline informed court today that police is holding her client unlawfully.

She told court that police should either grant him a police bond or produce him before court for proper charging instead of unlawfully keeping him in custody.

The magistrate has now issued an order directing the Director of Public Prosecutions or the Attorney General to either set the suspect free or produce him in courts of law to be formally charged if they have a case against him.
