A section of Kalerwe market in Kampala has been demolished by Uganda National Roads Authority.  Several structures that were erected in demarcated road reserves have been razed down leaving hundreds of market vendors stranded.
UNRA Spokesman Mark Ssali says the  operation is part of the ongoing  expansion of the Kampala Northern bypass. He adds that the vendors were compensated several years back should pave way for the development of the Northern by pass extension.
The new development is creating easy access to the city center and reducing traffic.
