Uganda has received  647,080 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine  from US. The vaccines, which arrived on QATAR AIRWAYS, were received by the Minister of health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and US Ambassador to Uganda Natalie E. Brown at Entebbe International Airport.

The beneficiaries of the vaccine are priority groups who have not had their first  dose.

The U.S. Embassy in Kampala announced the donation by the United States of COVID-19 vaccines to Uganda as part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s global efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Natalie, United States of America has so far  spent one hundred and ten million dollars (USD 110M) in efforts to combat COVID19 in Uganda to save lives.

The donation was handed over by the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Natalie E. Brown on behalf of US and received by Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Minister of Health on behalf of the government of Uganda.

The additional vaccines raise hopes of schools reopening as the donations and outright purchases by government are scaling up efforts in reaching the priority numbers targeted by the government.

Uganda's  Education Minister Janet Kataha Museveni recently announced that opening up schools will depend on the targeted priority persons who include teachers and school going children.

Schools are part of the sectors still under a total lock down despite the fact that some international and local schools have embraced online classes.
