Kawempe North Member of parliament Mohammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West legislator Allan Sewanyana have been committed to the High court for trial on charges of murder, attempted murder, terrorism and aiding a terror group.
This Director of Public prosecution ordered for their committal after police completed investigations into their case. The legislators are jointly charged with Sserwada Mike,Wamala Bulo,Mugerwa John and Kanyike Jackson. The legislators denied the charges.
The DPP Jane Frances Abodo, intends to prove that the accused and others still at large between the month of January and August 2021, with intent to intimidate the public or a section of the public and for Political,Religious, social or economic aim indiscriminately without due regard to the safety of others or property, directly involved themselves or were complicit in the murders including that of Mugerwa Kizza Francis.They committed the offenses in Kampala, Rakai and Masaka districts ,
The DPP said she will adduce evidence at the trial to prove that between the said period , the Masaka greater area was gripped by insecurities and a series of murder, robberies and violent attacks were committed by unknown assailants indiscriminately.
The DPP further stated that on the night of 23/8/2021,unknown assailants attacked Masaka district and hacked several people to death and that on the next day, two people including Mugerwa Francis Kizza and Kakoza Sulaiman were found dead and their bodied were dumped on the road in Settaala village and another person identified as Ssebyoto Ronald was attacked in the same village,but survived with injuries on his head.
According to prosecution ,on the 4th day of August 2021,the MPs killed a one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, Lwengo District and that on the 23rd of August at Ssenya Village,in the Masaka City,with malice aforethought killed Kiyimba Tadeo at Ssettaala Village.
They are also said to have participated in the murder of Slaiman Kakooza, Michael Kizza Nswa on August 23rd 2021,at Ssetaala Village, Kimanya,Kabonera divison .
They were remanded on the 8th of September 2021 after they were arrested at Masaka police station where they had gone for the second day to make police statements on the infamous 'bijambiya' killings in Masaka district. These have since been denied bail
