Parliament to investigate distribution of learning material for children during lockdown

The parliamentary committee on government assurances will next week begin investigations to ascertain whether  school children locked at home due to COVID-19 received  learning materials from the ministry of Education and Sports.

The  committee  chairperson Betty Nambooze says  that they will visit  different districts and stop in  various villages to assess if the children got the materials and whether  or not they have been learning through radios, Televisions and digital platforms as claimed by officials from the ministry.

The  MPS  heading to western Uganda will be led by Kalungu west legislator  Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu, Central region team will be headed by Betty Nambooze.

Another team of legislators heading to  Eastern Uganda will be led by  Lugazi municipality mp Stephen Sselubula while  Busiro north mp  Nsubuga Paul  will lead the legislators traveling to the northern region .

Nambooze noted  that the committee members will also  interrogate the district education officers and sub county chiefs to ascertain if the materials were distributed and received.

The committee also wants to establish if the radio stations listed by the ministry of education  have received their payment for teaching children during the COVID-19 outbreak.
