 Communities in the eastern district of Katakwi have asked the government to fast track the establishment of seed schools and health centers .

Their concerns are attributed to long distances that children move to get to school while patients too move long distances to access health facilities.

This was disclosed to the Minister in charge of Teso affairs Dr Ongalo Obote Clement Keneth who is currently making on spot checks on the progress of government projects in Katakwi,Kapelabyong and Amuria .

The various livelihood projects are part of the 26 million Euro funding from the United Nations Capital Development Fund designed to consolidate stability in Northern Uganda, eradicate poverty and under-nutrition and strengthen the foundations for sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development.

The  interventions from the office of the prime minister in the five  sub regions of Karamoja,Teso,Lango,Acholi and West Nile is part of affirmative action as a result of post conflict in Teso region and lawlessness in Karamoja.

The funding of various programmes under the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU) Programme funded by the European Union (EU) under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) is benefiting 33 districts with a total population of over 7 million people.

The objective of the programme is to reduce the development gap between Northern Uganda and the rest of the country by focusing on three areas: Nutrition and Food Security, Road Infrastructure, and Good Governance.

However, local residents who have endured hardships ranging from cattle rustling, generic diseases, lack of schools and clean water have voiced their demands for enhanced security, schools and health centers.

According to Johnson Owaru the regional coordinator for the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda at the office of the prime minister, they are focusing on enhancing livelihoods of vulnerable communities mainly in food production, capacity development, savings and family planning.

The Development Initiative for Northern Uganda, a Government of Uganda program with support from. European Union has been awarded to CARE Denmark for implementation.
