Police in Kampala has in detention nine members of a criminal gang which has been terrorizing the people of Kampala and other surrounding areas especially Nansana.
According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the 9 suspects subscribe to a criminal gang known as "Nats family" that is based in Nateete and has been operating in the areas of Nansana, Lubaga, Old Kampala among others .
These were arrested by a joint task team which was set up to dismantle a criminal gang within Nansana Kibbuloka, old Kampala, Kawempe, Bwaise, and Mengo.
First to be arrested was the ring leader identified as Ssemanda Meddie alias Meddie Brown who was picked from Tex Bar in Nansana and confessed to having been deploying youth to steal mobile phones from revellers, and take them to him for sale.
Enanga also noted that the task team also arrested one Abdul Swabulu Mulindwa alias Malevu who also led them to the arrest of other seven gang members.
The seven have been identified as Jumba Ali, Mulema Denis, Kiridde Yakub, Mukisa Ssegawa, Kazibwe Martin, Ssekate Ivan a.k.a Mich kalyowa, and Nsubuga Hassan
He further revealed that the group has been undergoing physical fitness training and other forms of self defense skills like karate to prepare application of force against their victims.
The gang had established a base in Nateete and had recruited over 50 youth who were always deployed on major roads within Kampala and surrounding areas wreaking havoc on the people . .
