Following a bloody conflict that has led to the displacement of over two hundred and fifty people in the Eastern District of Kapelabyong, Uganda Red Cross has responded with Humanitarian intervention to families affected by internal conflict in Kapelebyong and Okungur in North Eastern Uganda.

The intervention was a physical distribution exercise of Non food relief items at Okungur Primary School, targeting  250 most vulnerable  families selected by the local leadership and verified by the district authorities.

Robert Kwesiga, Uganda Red Cross Secretary-General says they made intervention because the Nature of the displacement that scattered over 250 families resulted into a Humanitarian concern.

Each family  received a non-food relief item kit containing 1 Jerrican, 1 blanket, 1 mosquito net, a sleeping mat, 1 tarpaulin of 4*6 mtrs, 1 knife, 2 cups, 2 saucepans, 2 plates, a solar lamp with a charging system, 1 serving ladle, and 2 bars of soap.

Presiding over the distribution exercise, Esther Anyakun, the Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees under the Office of the Prime Minister, has re-echoed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that peace is restored in the area through the deployment of security operatives, routine peace building avenues and constant monitoring of the areas threatened by insecurity.

Minister Anyakun also doubles as the Woman Representative for Nakapiripirit District in the Parliament of Uganda appreciated the Red Cross for working closely well with the Office of the Prime Minister to respond quickly to disasters and other life-threatening emergencies and save lives of the people.
