The Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi Dollo has said that he Judiciary is on a transformation mission to render effective and accessible justice to Ugandans.
Justice Dollo made the statement while presenting the 2nd Judiciary Performance Report 2021-2022, at the High Court Headquarters in Kampala.
The Chief Justice noted that the report aims at giving Accountability of events to the people of Uganda who are consumers of justice with a purpose to transform the Judiciary landscape in access to justice.
He said that for this to be meaningful, "access to justice must be real, access to justice must be physical and non physical,".
This is what the judiciary has done by littering the country with Judicial Officers; having a grade one magistrate grade at every district level, high Court Judges in far to reach areas like Karamoja,Kabongo,.
This he noted is intended to provide justice centers within walk able distances to the consumers in a bid to give them proper and adequate access to justices.
The CJ's is wish is to have 2000 Grade one Magistrates in the 2000 sub counties country wide to reduce on case backlog through disposal within a period of six months.
The function was attended by government officials including Justice Minister, Norbert Mao, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera among other dignitaries from the Justice, Law and Order Sector.
According to Hon.Mao,the Judiciary has changed its perception in the eyes of Ugandans due to the ongoing reforms that it has instituted which has resulted in Majority of Ugandans trusting it.
He praised the Judiciary for finishing its projects in time, something he says is still a challenge in many government agencies.
Mao has called upon the Chief Justice to continue raising the bar high for other arms of government to follow and further pledged to render full support to the Judiciary .
