Energy players to support the Government in connecting Kalangala to the National Grid.

Electricity players under their umbrella organization the Energy Generators and Distributors Association of Uganda (EGADAU) have announced key engagements with Government to ensure new power connections to rural areas.

This was revealed at the unveiling of the new leadership of EGADU that seeks to complement government efforts in ensuring a sustainable energy sector with a current focus on the ongoing Government efforts to interconnect 84 Islands of kalangala to the National grid.

Currently, only Bugala island is connected to thermopower through Kalangala infrastructural services which only has an output of 1.6 megawatts.

At the Annual General Meeting the Elected new office bearers, Ms Thozama Gangi, the Managing Director Eskom Uganda passed on the leadership of EGADAU to Josephine Okui Ossiya who will Chair the Board of 5 comprised of Selestino Babungi, the managing director UMEME, Keneth Kigumba from Wenreko, and Stephen Byaruhanga from Eskom .

The Association aims at promoting best practice and develops sector-relevant technical skills by supporting initiatives of the regulator and developing industry best practice with a view to developing a culture of compliance and clear practice guidelines, according to the incoming Chairperson Josephine Okui Ossiya

The association currently has 13 founding partner members and is expected to bring together more energy players in the electricity sector.
