Senior politicians Geoffrey Ekanya and James Nsaba Buturo have asked all Ugandans to give credit to the past leaders such as late Milton Obote and Kabaka Edward Mutesa for mobilizing against the white’s dominance towards the country’s independence.

Ekanya who is also Tororo North MP  say that these leaders and others like cooperative leaders, farmers and youth at that time who negotiated with the British to ensure that Uganda  attain  the freedom it has now unlike other African countries .

He said that Ugandans should not take the freedom they have for granted but give credit to those who negotiated for it because they were not greedy, saying  other countries like Zimbabwe and Kenya are suffering  because the whites  took  most of their fertile land and left the black Africans in arid dry parts.

`` We are luck that our fore furthers who fought for independence were not greedy they decided to negotiate for transfer of power.’’ Ekanya said

Ekanya however blames the late Idi Amin and the current President Yoweri Museveni for mismanaging the post-independence period by staying in power for long, failing to curb corruption and failing to deliver services to Ugandans.

Former Ethics minister also Bufumbira East MP James Nsaba Buturo says that even though the country gained its independence 60 years ago, it has not gained its indigenous practices as these were replaced by the colonial ways.

Buturo says that the country cannot be independent when it’s still governed by the colonial ways of leadership and practices.
