Former Uganda Airlines Boss Acquitted.

The former Uganda Airlines boss Cornwell Muleya has been  acquitted on charges of Disobedience of IGG's lawful orders. 

On the 23rd of September  this year, Buganda Road Court grade one magistrate Asuman Muhumuza ruled that Muleya, a Zambian National had a case to answer, however, in his defense, he produced evidence to prove that he was outside the country at the time of the IGGs summons were issued.

Today, magistrate Asuman Muhumuza ruled that ,  his failure to appear before IGG was excusable since it was proved that he was out of the country and upon his return he was sick.

The magistrate relied on  Air-tickets produced by the defense team to prove that he was indeed outside the country at the time on top of medical documentShowing that he was put on bed rest for two days. 

Muleya had been accused of disobedience of lawful orders allegedly issued by the Inspectorate of Government.

According to the evidence before Court , the said orders were requiring Muleya to appear before IGG and be interrogated  on allegations of mismanagement of public funds, procurement and recruitment of Staff at Uganda Airlines; but he refused to comply without justifiable reasons.

It was  alleged that between May and June, 2022 Cornwell Muleya wilfully and without reasonable justification or excuse refused to comply with an order of the Inspectorate of Government dated 23rd/May/2022;  requiring his attendance to give  evidence and produce documents to the Inspectorate of Government regarding mismanagement of public funds, procurement and Recruitment of Staff at the Uganda Airlines.

On  the 21st of June, Muleya was arrested by the Inspectorate of Government and produced before Court on the 22nd and charged with disobedience of  Orders of the Inspectorate of Government.

He was the CEO until April 2021 when the minister of Works and Transport,Gen.Edward Katumba Wamala fired him with President Museveni calling Investigations to be carried out in his alleged corruption.
