UPPC to Expand its footprint country wide to take services to the people

Uganda Printing and Publishing cooperation is planning to expand its network Country wide to take its services closer to the people.

This is one of the initiative the company is taking to position its brand competitively in the market.

The Acting Managing Director UPPC Kenneth Geoffrey Oluka noted that there is a need to develop a network of distribution and collection of notices to save people from traveling long distances to Entebbe to pick a hard copy of their documents.

He made the remarks during thanks giving prayers to mark the 120 years of the existence of the cooperation that started way back in 1902 as the official Gazette for the British colonial government.

He revealed they are trying to improve on the network of distribution starting with the newly created  regional cities of Soroti, Mbarara  Arua, Lira, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka,  Fort Portal and Hoima.

“It is so sad that the Uganda gazette receive 90 per cent of the notices from Kampala and Wakiso.  And people out there they do not even know about gazetting yet they are suffering with the real issues “he said  

Plans are also underway to digitalize the UPPC  in a bid to extend services to their clients electronically in a self-service manner . According to Oluka they are developing a web portal where thousands of documents would be easily accessed online, and while clients can upload and register their content for advertisement on the e-Gazette

“There is  an overwhelming and long overdue need to have thousands of documents which UPPC has gathered over the last 120 years put in digital format for ease of access through  computer networks and online” Oluka stated.

The 3rd Deputy Prime Minister and ministers without portfolio  Lukia Isanga Nakadama who was the chief Guest reminded Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies to hid to the presidential directive take all their printing work to Uganda Printing and Publishing cooperation to help the company raise revenue.

“I urge the private sector and other non state actors to entrust their print and Publishing works with UPPC because it is an institution of repute especially in security printing. The institution has been in business for 120 years, and you can bank on its expertise, competences and reliability to deliver on your printing needs and beyond” she averred.

Much as UPPC is state owned, it operates as a commercial enterprise without funding from the government.  The corporation makes money through doing business with MDA’s, the private sector and the general public.

At this thanks giving former employees of UPPC received awards in recognition of their services to the company.  Those who took home awards included  80 year old Mr. Lubega Paul, Kayongo Jame, Mbareba Gad, Mubuya Agness, Mubuya Joseph, Tamale George William,  Nagawa Betty, Nalwenango Christine and Nairuba Jessica among others.
