Fallen Supreme court judge Rubby Opio Aweri has been described as a distinct career judicial officer and an environmentalist by fellow colleagues.
In his speech , the chairperson of the judicial service commission Justice Benjamin Kabiito revealed that there is no record of any complaint filed against justice Aweri with the commission during his 39 years of service in the institution.
Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera has described the late Justice Rubby Opio Aweri as a real epitome of Judicial ethics and integrity.
Justice Buteera was speaking during a special ceremony held at the High Court Headquarters in Kampala to commemorate the life of Justice Aweri who has served the Judiciary since 1983 starting as a magistrate until he rose to the rank of Justice of the Court of Appeal.
At the time of his death, he was the chief inspectorate of the courts of Judicature on top of being a Supreme Court judge.
The fallen Judge has further been praised as a peace- maker , loving colleague and one who loved to plant trees every where .
Justice Buteera said that his colleague whom he has known his colleague 1982 when he was in private practice has left a wealth of jurisprudence in Uganda's legal system as a Judge of High Court and a Justice of both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
"As Chief Inspector of Courts he had opportunity to physically know and mentor many Judicial Officers he came into contact with" Justice Buteera said.
Justice Buteera further noted that at the age of 69, Justice Rubby Apio Aweri had dedicated his entire working life to the Judiciary and also died while serving his motherland Uganda.
“He committed himself to work with integrity which helped him to rise from the lowest Professional rank of a Magistrate Grade One to the justice of the Supreme Court” he noted.
Justice Aweri has been described by many as a great towering legal mind who served the bench with boundless dedication, utmost humility and commitment for nearly four decades.
The deputy chief justices said that Justice Aweri has passed on at a time when his experience, wisdom and counsel are most required.
Hon. Justice Mr. Rubby Opio Aweri was born on May 31, 1953, in Kachung village, Agwata Sub-county, Dokolo County, Lira District.
He joined the Judiciary as a Magistrate Grade I in 1983 and rose through the ranks to Justice of the Supreme Court (2015), a position he held until the time of his death.
As a career Judicial Officer, Justice Rubby Opio Aweri was appointed Judge of the High Court in 1998 and later elevated to a Justice of the Court of Appeal in 2013.
At the time of his demise, he was the Chief Inspector of the Courts of Judicature.
