Kakumiro District to host Liberation Day celebrations

The National organizing committee for the 37th NRM Liberation day has started Preparations ahead of the celebrations to be held on 26th January 2023 in Kakumiro district.

According to Al Haji Yunus Kakande the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for the presidency, various committees have been formulated to organize for the day following a meeting graced by Prime Minister Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah at Kakumiro district headquarters on Thursday.

President Museveni who doubles as the NRM National Chairman is expected to be the chief guest.

The President will preside over the official opening of the Kakumiro NRM house, commission the newly tarmacked Kakumiro-Buhimba road and hand over freehold land titles to beneficiaries among other activities of the day.

NRM Liberation Day in Uganda is celebrated on January 26th each year. The public holiday commemorates the date in 1986 when the National Resistance Movement army overthrew the previous government.

Since then   President Museveni has been credited with steady economic growth, improved infrastructure, and stable political leadership.

In the recent past, a small number of invited people, including dignitaries and visitors have joined the President during the celebrations, due to the Coronavirus pandemic but this year’s edition is likely to see a larger crowd.

The Vice President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, ambassadors, ministers, religious leaders, cultural leaders, presidential advisors, the judiciary, NRM secretariat officials, and historicals among others, are some of the f invited guests expected to grace  the function
