Police in Katwe have kicked off investigations under which a UPDF soldier attached to the guards of Kamuswaga shot dead one person at bar in Kampala.
The incident happened at 3 am at "Naiga" Establishment in Boston Village, Salama Parish, Makindye Division.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, the suspect dressed in the army uniform,Lance Corporal Katamugaya David a body guard attached to Kamuswaga of Kooki entered the bar carrying an AK 47 gun, approached a group of four people who were drinking beer, instructed one to step aside and opened fire killing one on spot.
Luke Owoyesigyire Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesman has identified the deceased as Aggrey Ampumuza while the injured are t Ben Twinamasiko, Aggrey's brother, unidentified third victim and Anita Namakula who are currently undergoing treatment at St. Francis Nsambya hospital and Mulago hospital
“Eyewitness accounts state that Katamugaya left the bar after warning the group that he would come back and deal with them. He returned 15 minutes later carrying a gun and shot at the group, killing Aggrey Ampumuza, a resident of the same address, instantly,” Owoyesigyire said.
A police team rushed to the scene after getting the information ,documented it [scene] and recovered five cartridges along with a projectile.
Owoyesigyire said police have ascertained that the shooter was one of the bodyguards attached to Kamuswaga of Kooki.
“The police found an AK47 rifle with 24 rounds of ammunition at his residence. However, the suspect is still at large, and investigations are ongoing.”
The motive of the shooting is still a mystery, but there is an allegation of a crime of passion after reports emerged that the officer Katamugaya David was in a relationship with Anita Namakula.
He reportedly accused the deceased of meddling in their relationship .
“ Police urge anyone with information that may assist in the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator to come forward and report to the nearest police station" Oweyesigire added.
The body of Aggrey has been taken to Mulago hospital for a postmortem examination.
