Ugand's President Yoweri Kagutta Museveni recently directed anti-corruption agencies to kick off an expansive investigation into the iron sheet saga and other related aid to Karamoja sub region that was swindled by senior government officials including ministers.
Addressing journalists on Monday, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said a joint task force has been set up to investigate all government officials including the ministers who were cited in the alleged theft of iron sheets that were meant to be distributed to the poor people of the remote and hard to reach Karamoja region.
The task force will interview witnesses and record statements from a number of government officials including Minister for Karamoja to establish their involvement in the iron sheets saga.
The police spokesperson also noted that they'll build on existing information which has been gathered by other investigating agencies including the Parliamentary committee on Presidential affairs as part of efforts to widen the investigations.
According to Enanga the task force will conduct thorough, and expeditious investigations into the giving away of Karamoja iron sheets to able, wealthy and well paid government officials.
