The Electoral commission has officially handed over their offices along Jinja Road to Uganda National Roads Authority to pave way for the second phase of the Kampala flyover construction.
On Tuesday the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama handing over files containing particulars of the land at Plot 55 Jinja Road, to Eng. Lawrence Pario, the Contracts Manager, Kampala Flyover Project and Head of Structures and Bridges in the Uganda National Roads Authority.
Justice Byakama noted that the hand over was done to enable the second phase of the Kampala flyover construction and upgrading project that is expected to kick off immediately at the completion of the first phase that is expected to end in August.
He confirmed that UNRA compensated the commission with 23 billion shillings which they partly used to acquire their new offices.
The head of structures and bridges under UNRA Lawrence Pario noted that they are now going to clear the land and demolish the current structures so that works on the Kampala flyover project can start He adds that the current structures have been interfering with the design of the Uganda gauge railway.
He revealed they will kick off with improving the drainage channel settings among others .
