UPPC Employees jailed for Embezzlement of UGX 2.6 Billion

Five employees of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation have been charged and sent on remand at Luzira government prison  over mismanagement and embezzlement of  Ugx 2.62 billion Shillings.

Prof Wasswa Tom Davis the former Managing Director of Uganda Printing and publishing Corporations, Kasenkende Mujjuzi the former finance and Administration manager, Kigonya Peter, Ahimbisibwe John Baptist and Ayebale Catherine appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court grade one Magistrate Moses Nabende and denied the charges. 

Prosecution states that between 8th and 9th July 2020 at Uganda Printing and publishing Corporation Head offices in Entebbe Wakiso district, all accused persons irregularly caused payment of 222,113,278 shillings  purporting it to be commission fees for securing a contract for the display of the National Register for the 2020-2021 General Elections from the Electoral Commission whereas not,  knowing that such an act would cause financial loss to the government of Uganda.

Prosecution alleges that between the same period,  the accused persons went ahead to cause a loss of over  537 million shillings purporting it to be commission fees for securing a contract to gazette notice for publication of nominated candidates for parliamentary and local council elections 2020-2021 from the Electoral Commission. 

Court heard that the accused persons between  22nd June 2021 at Uganda Printing and publishing Corporation Entebbe caused a loss of 1.5billion shillings purporting it to be fees for securing a contract to publish local council election results 2020-2021 from Electoral Commission whereas not. They have been ordered to re-appear before Court on Wednesday March 15th 2023 for bail.
