Uganda Boxing Federation(UBF) President, Moses Muhangi, has been remanded to Luzira Prison until 31st May after being denied bail at the Nakawa Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested for alleged forgery.

This, comes within days after the indictment of the Netball President Sarah Babirye Kityo on charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

On Monday, Public Accounts Committee (Central Government) chaired by Bugiri Municipality Member Of Parliament Hon. Asuman Basalirwa handed the UBF boss Muhangi and the former accountant at the Federation Lydia Namuleme to Police Criminal Investigations Department for further management on allegations of forgery, uttering false documents and misappropriation.

Muhangi and Namuleme were appearing before the Committee to answer to queries raised by the Auditor General.

Subsequently this week the National Council of Sports Chairperson Ambrose Tashobya called out some sports federations including UBF that they had refused to account for Government funds required by the law.

Tashobya said: “It is our wish that all these federations receive and spend money in a manner which fits the law so that they can come back for more, but there is a high level of adamancy from some of the federations claiming we are overburdening them with accountability.”

It is said that Muhangi went to the CID after an urgent call only to find other charges preferred against him which remain unknown up to now.
