As preparations for the Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd at Namugongo are underway, security operatives are primarily focusing on combating terrorism, bomb threats, and other crimes.

Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, stated during a meeting held on Thursday that commanders have agreed on command posts for their respective operations, aiming to ensure a smooth and peaceful event.

Additionally, plainclothes security operatives are already in the area, monitoring people's activities and movements.

In the meantime, groups of pilgrims from various parts of the country have begun arriving at the Namugongo Martyrs shrines in anticipation of the June 3rd celebrations.

At Nakiyanja Protestant Martyrs shrine, the caretaker of the shrine, Enock Rukundo, warmly welcomed the pilgrims and assured them that everything is well-prepared for the planned celebration.

On the business front, residents in the vicinity of Namugongo have started renting out their properties, including compounds and houses, to individuals intending to conduct business during the event. Some have even rented out their houses for a two-week period.

According to Magoba David, one of the landlords in the area, plots are being divided and rented out at prices ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 shillings, offering opportunities for various businesses.

He further mentioned that they expect to generate significant income this time since the government has lifted COVID-19 restrictions.
