Police Issues Guidelines Ahead of Martyrs Day Celebrations

Traffic Police have suspended the operation of taxi stages in Kyaliwajjala, Sonde, Nalya and Namugongo in Wakiso district during the Martyrs day celebrations set for Saturday as part of efforts to allow for clear traffic flow.

According to traffic guidelines released by the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Police commander, Rogers Kawuma Nsereko said taxis found operating on the restricted stages during the martyrs day celebrations will be impounded and drivers asked to pay in order to recover them.

Nsereko said as part of the guidelines, different stickers have been issued to vehicles and motorcycles carrying VIPs and VVIPs that will allow them access the Catholic and Anglican Church shrines at Namugongo.

Kawuma Nsereko further adds that Jinja -Kampala highway will have  normal traffic flow , while Kireka Kyaliwajala will be one way for vehicles heading to the venue and none will be allowed coming back from Namugongo to Kireka.

He adds that Kyaliwajala trading center to the Catholic shrine will be a pedestrian walkway and pedestrians will keep right while the  left will be reserved for VVIP's  and emergency vehicles.

The traffic guidelines also indicate that VIPs with vehicles bearing appropriate stickers will be allowed to access their parking at the Catholic and Protestant church.

Nsereko said vehicles with red stickers will access Namugongo through Kyaliwajala via Ssemambo road and park at Namugongo Boarding primary school.

He said VIPs and VVIPs with vehicles to the Protestant shrine will access the venue through Bweyogere, Bbuto, Kyobe road and Park at the Protestant church farm whereas medical service vehicles will be given green stickers that they will be asked to always put on display.

Those with purple stickers will access the venue through St. Kizito Lwanga road at Namugongo police entrance and also advised to be at the venue in good time because starting at midnight they will not be allowed to enter.

On the other side, pilgrims to Mamre international prayer center will access the venue through Bweyogere, Buto Kyobe road and park as directed by traffic police, adding that residents of areas around Namugongo and Kyaliwajjala that won't participate in the celebrations will be allowed to either stay or leave their residences in respect of the security guidelines.

Motor vehicles and motorcycles without appropriate stickers will not be allowed beyond parking points.Nsereko insists that there will be no parking for the general public at  both Catholics and Anglican sites
