Security agencies have expanded their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the use of the residence of Sheik Yunus Kamoga, the head of Jumiat Dawatil Tabligh Al Salafiya under Nakasero Mosque, for training 32 youth and male adults in Sharia law.

A joint team comprising personnel from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), Joint Anti Terrorism Taskforce (JATT), and Crime intelligence recently conducted a raid on Sheikh Kamoga's home in Kawempe Tula, located in Kawempe division. During the raid, they discovered 32 children and youth aged between 14 and 28 years.

According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the raid was prompted by an alert from the mother of Mukiibi Barack, a student at London College of St. Lawrence.

The mother reported that her son had been confined at the facility and prevented from returning to school.

The student had contacted her, complaining of mistreatment and expressing a desire to go back to school.

The student's mother informed the police that instead of taking her child to school, Twaha Mukiibi, the father, had taken him to an unregistered teaching center without a license to operate.

Enanga stated that upon raiding the facility in Kawempe, they found 32 victims hidden in a secluded area secured by six padlocks on the gates. The police spokesperson mentioned that they intend to question Sheikh Kamoga and the school administrators about the purpose of the training and whether the facility is registered and licensed by the Ministry of Education.

Enanga emphasized that the security agencies are not targeting the Muslim community.

"We want to inform the public that we are not targeting Muslim community members, but we got a complaint from parents who were concerned that their children were diverted from the main school calendar,” Enanga said.

He further informed the public that unregistered Sharia law schools like this one can be exploited for radicalization and recruitment of individuals for terrorist activities.

In his response to the raid ,Sheikh  Yunus Kamoga told the media in Kampala   that if security agencies need something from his home, they should summon him instead of conducting a raid and arresting people.

In the meantime, the joint security spokesperson, Fred Enanga, confirmed that Sheik Ismael Kalule was arrested by CMI after being found in possession of bomb-making materials. Some of these materials were recovered from Dr. Kalule's pharmacy.
