This was contained in a speech read for him by the Rt Hon Prime Minister Robiba Nabbanja who represented him at celebrations to mark world environment day.

The day is marked every June 5 , to create  worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

This year's National celebrations at Kololo independence grounds were held under the theme  " Stop plastic pollution today".

NEMA and other government agencies were tasked by the President  to carry on with sensitization of the public about plastic materials which he says are dangerous.

These he expressed,  they kill livestock, degrade the soils, enhance water runoff and erosion, block the drainage channels, pollute rivers, lakes and kill our fish.

They also create chemicals that can enter into the food chain thereby causing health complications like cancer.
