Police have asked parents of some of the  students burnt during the attack on Lhubirira Secondary School by ADF rebels in Kasese  to pick their bodies after being identified by DNA tests.

Following the incident, remains of 17 students were collected and DNA samples taken from some of their parents.

Fred Enanga the police spokes person said the  the results of these tests are out and  only 11 bodies have been identified.

He asked the parents of the 11 children including Tumuhamye Amos, Muhindo Brian, Mumbere Samuel, Muhindo Charles, Kule Morris, Masereka Joas, Masereka Salazia, Byamukama Joab, Bwambale Onesmus, Muhindo Isaac and Mumbere Felix to pick their bodies after DNA results matched.

The bodies will be handed over at Bwera hospital mortuary, this week on Tuesday so that families can give them a befitting burial.

However  six of the 17 bodies have not yet been identified after DNA samples provided by parents failed to match with the burnt bodies.

ADF rebels  entered the country through the border with DRC at Duduma before they descended onto the school where they first hit the watchman with a hammer on the head.

The rebels totaling to 35 then  attacked the school dormitories where they cut the female students with hammers, axes and hoes, and later set the  boys’ dormitory  on fire.

Currently death toll has now reached 44 after one of the hospitalized students died whereas another body was recovered by the UPDF inside DRC.

Enanga also dismissed claims by politicians and local leaders in Kasese that there was no swift response during the incident.

The police spokesperson noted that on being informed of the attack, the OC station for Mpondwe Police mobilized two patrol vehicles with 16 personnel together with the second in command for the 5th Mountain Battalion, Maj Kaddu and his team rushed to the scene.
