Museveni meets Putin in talks on different areas of cooperation with Uganda.

President Museveni has held Bilateral talks with his host President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.

He outlined areas of cooperation that included Oil exploration, nuclear power energy, fertilizers, electric batteries, and Space science that would enable Uganda to have its own dedicated satellite.

He also proposed to President Putin to discourage by policy the importing of raw materials from Africa but instead work with the African governments to add value at source as this would transform the economies of Africa in a very short time from low middle income to high middle-income status.

On his part, President Vladimir Putin has reiterated Russia’s commitment to enhance trade, economic gains, and humanitarian cooperation with Africa.

He was speaking at the opening ceremony in the Russian city of Saint Peters burg of the two-day Second Russia-Africa summit.

Mr Putin has expressed hope that the summit will contribute to the realization of these goals.

 Putin used the occasion to assure the African leaders and the world that Russia was doing all it could to avert the looming food crisis caused by the conflict in Ukraine that risks causing shortages and price spikes of grains.

President Putin told the leaders at the summit that he was committed to cooperation with the African continent in the area of education through increased enrollment of African students into Russian universities, opening of Russian state media bureaus on the African continent, and putting up a common information space Center for Russia and Africa.

He equally pledged cooperation with the African continent in the areas of science and technology and agriculture noting that with mechanized agriculture, the African continent will not only ensure food security for the continent but would also feed the world.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg is among the African leaders attending the two-day Russia-Africa summit that is expected to close today.
