- From his home, police then recovered another IED and an assortment of bomb making materials including jerrycans of nitric acid, potassium nitrate, notes and text books on bomb making material among others.
Security agencies have detained one suspect on charges of terrorism after he was found with Improvised Explosive Devices-IEDs in his house.
According to Fred Enanga the police spokesman, the suspect identified as Mugabe Collins , a resident of Banda II Nakawa division was arrested last week after one of the IEDs he was making mistakenly went off in the evening leading to concerns by his neighbors who alerted police.
Enanga said this prompted a response from police who managed to cordon off the area by not allowing anyone to leave before later carrying out a search into the house of the suspect.
Police then recovered another IED and an assortment of bomb making materials including jerrycans of nitric acid, potassium nitrate, notes and text books on bomb making material among others.
"He had taken steps and constructed two IED's , one of which went off mistakenly after he tampered with it at night,”Enanga stated.
He adds that police are now interrogating the suspect to establish whether he's linked to any of the terror groups and also for potential targets just in case they were e planning to use them on Ugandans.
" We would like to thank the local community in the Banda II zone in Nakawa division for their efforts when after the explosion, they alerted security agencies."
Enanga noted that during interrogation, security will seek to get answers from Mugabe on whether he is linked to ADF and where he was taking the two Improvised Explosive Devices he was found with.
