Kenyan National Arrested over Torture of Son

Police in Namayingo has arrested a man for torturing his 6-year-old son whom he tied with ropes and beat him mercilessly.

According to the police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the suspect has been identified as Okato Johnson Lwapando, a Kenyan national who is facing charges of aggravated torture of  his six-year-old son .

The incident happened  in Butihandi village in Namayingo district.

Enanga said the Kenyan national was captured on camera torturing his six-year-old son and the disheartening and disturbing images went viral.

“The images showed the suspect having tied both the hands and legs of the six-year-old son using four ropes and tied them against two trees and started torturing him as a form of punishment,” Enanga said.

He noted that the area LC1 chairman reported the matter to police after getting information about the incident and also helped them to arrest the suspect.

The  six year old victim is currently being treated at Okiring clinic at Mukolobi trading centre in Namayingo district.

Police  recovered broken sticks, a panga and two ropes from the scene which had been used by the suspect to torture the boy.

“We strongly condemn such acts of torture as a form of punishment used by some parents. This is torture and punishable. We encourage parents to use holistic ways  to punish or tame their children.”
