Cavendish University wins the 2023 Inter University International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition

Cavendish University emerged as the winner of the 2023 Inter University International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition.

The competition is an annual competition organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) aimed at arousing the interests of law students worldwide in matters to do with International Humanitarian Law and this year's edition ran under the theme ”Protection of Children in times of armed conflict” .

 Gloria Nasegye from Cavendish who won the best Orator award expressed joy over the achievement saying that she had an excellent experience.

 

"This experience has taught us a lot ,and also the fact that we have had an advantage of submitting before real judges of the constitution and the supreme court it has highly improved  our confidence”, Nasegye narrated.

The competition initially attracted four universities and Kampala International University also  emerged as  the First runners-up .

Bako Jane Patricia, the Head of Communication and Prevention ICRC said that the competition  improves students' skills as they pursue the profession.

“The need for humanitarian law is increasing and it is against such a background that ICRC is collaborating with universities that teach law; to involve students in the international humanitarian law promotion activities, and the moot court is one of them,”Bako explained.

She also revealed that  the winners,” Cavendish University” would represent Uganda at this year's  All Africa  International Humanitarian Law Moot competition  in Arusha
