Police Recovers More Explosives in Kampala

Police have said they have recovered five more bombs after the Sunday incident in which an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) was recovered at Pastor Robert Kayanja’s Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala. 

Addressing journalists at Naguru, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga noted that the Sunday incident saw Kintu Abdurahman arrested as he tried to access the church and an IED hidden in a food flask was recovered from him.

The suspect had disguised as a church goer and the sniffer dogs were not able to trace the bomb but a police counter terrorism officer deployed at the entrance became suspicious and checked him using a bomb detector .

 

“Upon interrogation he identified how his cell was involving six members including himself and we are now searching for other five conspirators who are still at large,” Enanga said.

He added the suspect led the joint security team to a two room rented house in Lungujja zone 8 where three constructed IEDs were recovered on Sunday.

According to the police spokesperson, two other IEDs were  recovered on Monday  at a guest house in Bunamwaya and another at Mabiito building in Nateete.

Enanga says the suspect was already on CMI’s wanted list and is a resident of Mbizzinnya village, Buwama sub county in Mpigi district , adding that the hunt for five other colleagues of his are on.

Meanwhile, two other IEDs were  recovered on Monday  at a guest house in Bunamwaya and another at Mabiito building in Nateete.

According to Enanga, Gerald Nsamba, 28 was intercepted at Kiliniro cell, Mutukula town council in Kyotera district at 6am while transporting the explosives.

“He was found with a complete set of explosives and detonators. On interrogating him he claimed the explosives had been handed to him by a Congolese only known by appearance at  the Tanzania side of Mutukula ,” Enanga said.

He noted the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue.
