Police Activates Operation Fika Salaama

As the country gears up for festive season the Traffic Police have  activated all Fika Salaama points and speeding zones  in a bid to enhance the traffic operations on all major highways across the country.

Micheal Kananura the traffic police spokesperson says whenever the festive season draws near, cases of  over speeding, inexperienced drivers on the roads, drivers with vehicles in Dangerous Mechanical Condition and drivers under the influence of alcohol a are usually on   increase.

Its against this background that police has  increased operations, to  reduce occurrence of road accidents  during the festive season .

Kananura says that all drivers of passenger service vehicles especially bus drivers will be tested for alcohol on the activated Fika salama check points as one of the ways of eliminating drink driving that claims lives of passengers .

He also noted that traffic police will increase foot and motorized patrols on the roads but also  advised users to ensure  that their vehicles are worthy to be on the road during the festive season.

Meanwhile  a total of 390 road accidents  were registered in the past one week  and claimed  73 lives.

Another 298 people   sustained injuries across the country.
