Government reveals plans to develop a National roads maintenance strategy to address the impact of ongoing El nino rains that have devastated a number of major roads across the country .

This was disclosed by the state minister for Works Musa Ecweru as the country faces serious road damages which has  been partly attributed to the insufficient funding for maintenance.

This has   reduced over time since the COVID-19 period when government funding dropped drastically.

Ecweru says government is right now developing a redress strategy for maintaining all affected roads to ease movement of goods and services .

 He made the remarks  during the the Uganda-Japan Quality Infrastructure Conference in Kampala where the two countries are planning on a knowledge exchange between countries on road infrastructure.

His Excellency Yoshimura Tomotaka, the Deputy Head of Mission of Japan to Uganda says this will  promote investment and continued cooperation with the Japanese side in the development of high-quality infrastructure in Uganda through sharing of knowledge and experience.

A number of events of mutual cooperation have been held as part of this High-QuaIity infrastructure (HQI) Initiative between Uganda and Japan.

Notably Uganda needs support in carrying out a comprehensive capacity needs assessment for all physical plans .

The is also need for support in professional training in  ethics and integrity for the physical planners and Exchange learning experiences  with professional bodies across the region that are already established to pick key lessons .
